In order to activate the free data like I said earlier, you need to download the GLO Cafe mobile application from either Google Play store or Apple Store.
After downloading the app, open and proceed to create a new account by selecting New user in the opening page. You will be asked to enter your glo number, type it in and request for OTP.
A one-time-password will be sent to your line, copy and paste accordingly into the provided column and then set a pin on the next page. When you are done setting a 6-digit pin as required, you will get two to three SMS.
The first should be a welcome text to the GLO cafe app and then the second should be a notification containing information about the free 75gb data being credited to your line.
Once you get the data notification, turn on your data connection and start surfing the web as you please.
Validity Period
Well, the text reads that, the 75gb data will expire by 12am, midnight but from experience that’s not the case. The data actually lasts for 24 hours.
It expires at exactly the time you activated it the following day. So if you should activate the offer by 10pm today, the data plan will remain active till 10pm tomorrow. Meaning that, it doesn’t expire by 12am as the message claims, the free data lasts for complete 24 hours.
Is Glo Cafe 75gb Data Worth It?
The GLO cafe 75gb data is worth it, if we are to look at it from the free aspect. But by usability of network, I don’t think so. Reason is, after subscribing to the plan, I don’t know if it’s just me being bias, it seems as though, the network speed gets terrible or reduced; leading to the data not being used well before expiry.
Therefore, it’s best to opt in for the free 75gb data only if the network coverage is good enough at your location, otherwise you will end up wasting time and losing the special data offer.
Secondly, the data validity period is too short. I know it’s free but there is a popular saying that what is worth doing, is worth doing well. 75gb data allocation is too big to have just a 24 hour validity period because not everyone is a heavy user and more than half of the population who may find the offer attractive wouldn’t be able to use half of it before expiry and that’s really unfair.
Glo should work on improving their network coverage and also increase the validity period to a couple of days in order for it to better serve interested subscribers.
Another area that is highly discouraging about the whole free data offer is the poor working condition of the GLO cafe application. The app barely loads well, when I tried registering, it took me nearly two hours before the app loaded freely enough for me to request for OTP.
If you are just learning about the GLO free data offer and would like to sign up to get it, bear in mind that it’s not going to be smooth unless you try it at midnight or meet the network when it’s more favorable. Most times the app doesn’t load well and as such, making registration impossible.
